On Sunday the 23rd February the SE BMFA and CADMAC – (Crawley & District Model Aircraft Club) held their annual indoor free-flight competition and fun-fly event at the Triangle Centre in Burgess Hill.
This is the 46th such event and the 2nd at this new venue in Burgess Hill.
After last year’s event when there weren’t enough tables and chairs, we made sure that we had plenty for everyone this time.
On the day we had about 70 fliers and spectators turn up to the event with all classes of free-flight indoor models to fly.

The competitions were organized by Crawley Model Aircraft Club and consisted of some ‘fun-fly’ time for people to set up their models or to fly their own models without competing, and some ‘competition’ time in the various classes as follows –
Hand Launched and Catapult gliders,
EZB / Living Room Stick / Gyminnie Cricket,
Peanut and Open Scale / Legal Eagle,
Hangar Rat and Butterfly mass launches.
Each class was judged on various criteria depending on that class and the time in the air.
At the end of the day the SE Area Chair, Stuart Willis presented Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates to the respective class winners with the Gold winners also receiving an engraved glass.
There were also trophies awarded for the Legal Eagle winner – Terry Adams, and the overall ‘Champion’ of the day – David Goodwin.

The event was deemed a great success by all of the attendees and the SE Area managed to cover the costs for the occasion with the attendance fees plus selling a number of models which were kindly donated by Alex Cameron.
Next year’s event is already booked for 22nd February 2026.
