Area Scale Heli Day 23rd June – Report by Martin Stevens

Levels 87 club scale helicopter day – June 23rd 2024

Levels 87 hosted our 2nd annual SE BMFA scale helicopter day at their flying field located in the south east near the coast of Eastbourne. We are spoilt by a beautiful flying site that allows flying throughout the year and the day saw some 13 pilots enjoy our site accompanied by glorious weather and a rather delicious bbq cooked by our very own resident chef Bob.

First off the blocks was myself flying my newly finished 206 modelled on the Australian Army Kiowa, really only to provide an insight as to the flying area for the wind direction for the day

Amongst the pilots were the team from ‘Blades of Thunder’ who gave us a great display with their many fabulous models.
Glen Davis flew his Whirlwind which features not only a realistic sound system but also a smoke generator which both looked and sounded superb. Also flying was his turbine Gazelle – nothing beats the sound of a jet turbine.
Accompanying Glen were his compadres Paul and Kevin who both flew their models – Paul with his Jet Ranger and Kevin with his MD500.
We were also visited by Simon Kierstan with his wonderful Apache and EC130 both remodelled by himself.
Our club members Dave Long and Tony Cross both bought along and flew their models Dave his 429 and Tony his Huey.
All in all everyone had a fantastic day – lots of flying and chatting with only a couple of minor mishaps, it was great to see everyone and here’s hoping for another bigger and more successful event next year.
