Bickley MFC Boot Fair and Scale Competition 16th and 17th May 2026

Report by Bob Ryan

On 16th and 17th May Bickley MFC held a boot fair and scale model competition and the event was sponsored by Futaba UK and by SLEC.

At the boot fair on Saturday there were 60 cars in the car park as well as cars selling on the field. As usual there were many good deals to be had.

As is always the case these events are dependent on good weather and earlier in the week the forecast for Sunday looked atrocious.
We were wondering whether to postpone the scale day but I’m so glad we didn’t because in the end the weather proved good on both days, however the forecast probably affected the turnout for Sunday but we still had a good turnout.

We had heavy rain on Saturday night but by 8am Sunday the sun was shining with a westerly breeze. The grass was cut a couple of days before and the field was looking great.
We brought the Scale meeting forward this year so that turbines (jets) could take part.

The photos above show the good turnout.

The awards for the Scale Competition were:
Paul Camilleri won the Futaba UK trophy for the best model flight.
Steve Mansell was awarded a valuable gift voucher from SLEC for the best “Best Built not Bought” model – in fact both of his models DH9a and his Spad were superb.

The lunch time BBQ prepared by Geoff Wallis and Mandy went down well (there was very little left), it was really tasty.
Sincere thanks to our Sponsors and all those who helped over the weekend.
